WE SHALL OVERCOME - OUR MRS AMERICA INSPIRED PHOTOSHOOT

Published on

What is it about Mrs America that has us all hooked? Is it the women, the politics, the fashion, the spex or all of the above? We just know that we can’t get enough. In the 70s we saw big cultural changes. The fashions were exciting. And spex had one of their finest decades.

Every second scene, we would spot a pair of frames that we stocked at Spex Pistols…and we wanted to celebrate them and show them off. As luck would have it, in the middle of watching Mrs America we were staying at the incredible Guardswell Farm and the lovely Anna Lamotte from the farm happened to bring us a selection of her Granny’s frames from the 70s and 80s that needed some refurbishment. She tried on a pair of vintage aviators and just reminded us so much of the empowering journalist and Equal Rights Activist, Gloria Steinem. That’s when we knew we had to do a proper photoshoot based on the styles and sentiments of Mrs America…with Anna as one of the models.

We Shall Overcome. Guardswell Farm, Perthshire

When she agreed to help us – we moved quickly and consciously chose a predominantly female team to create this shoot. Because, although we have been admiring and showcasing the fashions of the show, we take the topics highlighted within it very seriously. It’s important to us to continue to learn about and actively participate in the movements that support the equal rights of women, of Black people and of the LGBTQ+ community.

We hope you enjoy the images captured as much as we enjoyed creating them. Check out the full shoot here.
